CPR registration

You can apply for a CPR registration, if you have a place to live in Denmark and plan to stay for more than 3 months.

You can apply for a CPR if you take up residence in Denmark for more than 3 consecutive months. 

To ensure a smooth processing of your application, please make sure that you provide the documentation necessary when you apply.

How do I apply for a CPR number?

You apply online via the link below. You can use a laptop or a smartphone. Once your application has been submitted you will receive a confirmation by mail.

How long will it take before I have my CPR number?

The application process may take up to 14 working days. 

If you have submitted the correct documentation, you will receive an invitation email with a link to book an appointment. 

If we need additional information, we will ask you to upload more documents. 

What do I need to do before showing up for my CPR appointment?

You must prepare yourself for the meeting by carefully reading the attached documents in the invitation e-mail.

Please note that you cannot be registered before you reside at the address and hold a valid EU residence document (EU)/residence permit (Non-EU) - Nordic citizens exempted.

Housing confirmation (For landlords/owners*)

You must provide proof of address either in the form of a rental contract or a housing confirmation. All pages are relevant & the document must be filled completely, dated and signed.

If you live in the City of Copenhagen, you must reside at the address for at least 1 month. Other municipalities might require proof of up to 3 months' stay. Please contact your local citizen service, if you are in doubt.

If your landlord is not the owner of the residence, it is required that you upload documentation proving his/her rights to the property. This could be a rental contract between your landlord and the owner.

Rental contract (Tenancy agreement)

You must provide proof of address either in the form of a rental contract or a housing confirmation. All pages are relevant & the document must be filled completely, dated & signed.

If you live within the City of Copenhagen, you must reside at the address for at least 1 month. Other municipalities might require proof of up to 3 months' stay. Please contact your local citizen service if in doubt.

Employer-provided housing

You must provide proof of rental or ownership of the employer and a housing confirmation dated and signed by the employer.

Hotel

Payment receipts may vary in appearance. However, we require that the receipt have the following information:

  • Name and address of the hotel
  • The address you want to be registered at (make sure that the hotel administration allows you to register at the address)
  • Check-in date
  • Check-out date
  • Confirmation of payment or housing confirmation from the hotel for a minimum of 30 days.

Airbnb/similar - booking confirmation

You must provide proof of address either in the form of a rental contract or a housing confirmation. All pages are relevant and the document must be filled completely, dated and signed.

Passport

We require to see a valid passport when you register for a CPR number. We do not accept expired passports. Please upload the picture page of your passport.

National ID (Nordic and EU/EEA/Swiss citizens only)

We require to see a valid National ID when you register for a CPR number. A national identity card is a travel document with a photo and is issued by an official authority. A driver's license is not approved. 

Birth certifificate - family document

We ask applicants under the age of 18, traveling alone or with parents, to bring their original birth certificate and its translation when you register for a CPR number. The document may vary from country to country. Please contact the relevant authority for information about legalization/apostille.

Residence permit

There are different types of residence permits issued by the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) or The Danish Immigration Service (Udlændingestyrelsen) (https://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-GB). The document contains information about your residence permit in Denmark (type, date of issue and date of expiry). Your PersonID number is on the front page of the residence permit.  All pages are relevant when you register for a CPR number.

EU residence document (EU/EEA/Swiss citizens only)

Citizens of EU, EEA countries and Switzerland have to apply for an EU residence document (also known as a registration certificate), if they stay for more than 3 months and wish to apply for a CPR number.

The EU residence document gives you the right to reside in Denmark and is issued by the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI).

Marriage certificate

The document may vary from country to country. Please contact the relevant authority for information about legalization/apostille. We ask you to bring your original marriage certificate and its translation when you register for a CPR number.

Registered partnership certificate

Registered partnership is only for same-sex couples and must be concluded in one of the following countries: Nordic countries, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, The UK, The Czech Republic and Germany.

 

Acceptance from parent holding custody or shared custody

If you move to Denmark with your child (0-17 of age) alone, we need to have an acceptance from the other parent or documentation for sole custody, if applicable.

 

 

Acceptance from parents/guardians, if child is travelling alone

If a child (0-17 of age) is registering for a CPR number alone, we need an acceptance from both parents.
