Join our team of Welcome Ambassadors
The City of Copenhagen (part of International House Copenhagen) invites new volunteers to join the Welcome Ambassador Corps in Ørestad – a volunteer initiative that helps ensure that international residents feel supported and connected when arriving in the neighbourhood. A friendly face and a warm welcome can go a long way in turning a new city into a new home.
Ørestad is home to a growing international community. Each month, new international Copenhageners arrive, some from across the globe, others from nearby towns. Eager to start a new chapter in this vibrant part of Copenhagen. Arriving in a new place, however, can be overwhelming, and even small things like understanding local practices or finding local communities can feel like a hurdle.
Through informal events and International Cafés, the Welcome Ambassadors help newcomers feel more at home and connected to the local community.
What is a Welcome Ambassador?
As a Welcome Ambassador, you will join a volunteer team that hosts International Cafés and other local activities in Ørestad. Your role will be to greet newcomers with openness and help create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere during the events.
You will help facilitate conversations, share tips about the neighborhood, and highlight local resources and community opportunities so participants can connect with one another.
The role is primarily centered around the café events themselves but may also include other activities connected to the initiative. As a volunteer role, it is flexible and designed to fit around your existing schedule. However, we ask that volunteers can commit to the initiative for at least six months to help ensure continuity.
Please note that you are not expected to provide personal contact or ongoing support outside of the events.
Who can become a Welcome Ambassador?
Both Danes and internationals are welcome to apply as long as you:
- Are fluent in English
- Are open-minded, friendly and curious
- Want to help strengthen community life in Ørestad
- Preferably live in Ørestad (not a requirement but certainly a plus)
What do you get in return?
- A meaningful community with other engaged volunteers
- The opportunity to make a visible difference for newcomers
- A chance to get to know Ørestad better and connect with local organisations
- Experience in planning and hosting community events
- Practice communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds
Onboarding and participation
If selected, you will be invited to a mandatory two-part onboarding programme, which will take place after working hours:
- 21 May – International House Copenhagen
- 4 June – Ørestad Library
New volunteers are also expected to participate in the International Café on 28 May, where you will have the opportunity to observe and experience the initiative in practice.
How to apply
If you are interested in becoming a Welcome Ambassador, please send us a short description of yourself, your motivation, and how you would like to contribute to the role at welcome@kk.dk no later than 19 April. Selected candidates will be invited to a short, informal interview.
Everyone is welcome to apply, regardless of background, ethnicity, gender or age.
