Welcome Ambassadors
Brought together through a collaboration with International House Copenhagen, the initiative was established to create welcoming, informal spaces where people from all over the world can meet, exchange stories, and feel a sense of belonging in their new city. The ambassadors are passionate about making Copenhagen, and particularly Ørestad, a warmer, more inclusive place for everyone - whether you’ve just arrived in Denmark or have called it home for years.
The welcome ambassadors organise a variety of events throughout the year, designed to appeal to different interests and to create opportunities for people to meet in relaxed, social settings. From casual coffee meet-ups at Ørestad Library’s café, where newcomers can drop by for a friendly chat and find new connections over a warm cup of coffee, to evening gatherings around a campfire in the local forest, the events reflect the diversity and creativity of the community itself.
Each event is shaped by the ambassadors’ own experiences of moving to a new country, building friendships, and navigating life in Denmark. The focus is always on fostering a sense of community — whether it’s by helping someone take their first steps into Copenhagen’s social life or giving long-time residents a chance to meet new neighbours from around the world.
While the project is based in Ørestad, it warmly welcomes participants from all across Copenhagen. Everyone is invited to join, regardless of nationality, background, or how long they’ve lived in Denmark. The idea is simple: bring people together, create meaningful connections, and show that community can happen anywhere — in a library café, under the open sky by a campfire, or in the shared stories of everyday life.
Through these gatherings, the Welcome Ambassadors of Ørestad hope to make it just a little easier for people to build friendships, feel at home, and experience the power of local community in a global city.
