CPR registration

You can apply for a CPR registration, if you have a place to live in Denmark and plan to stay for more than 3 months.

You can apply for a CPR if you take up residence in Denmark for more than 3 consecutive months. 

To ensure a smooth processing of your application, please make sure that you provide the documentation necessary when you apply.

How do I apply for a CPR number?

You apply online via the link below. You can use a laptop or a smartphone. Once your application has been submitted you will receive a confirmation by mail.

How long will it take before I have my CPR number?

The application process may take up to two weeks. 

If you have submitted the correct documentation, you will receive an invitation email with a link to book an appointment. 

If we need additional information, we will ask you to upload more documents. 

What do I need to do before showing up for my CPR appointment?

You must prepare yourself for the meeting by carefully reading the attached documents in the invitation e-mail.

Please note that you cannot be registered before you reside at the address.

Housing confirmation (For landlords/owners*)

You must provide proof of residence either in the form of a rental contract or a housing confirmation. All pages are relevant & the document must be filled completely, dated & signed.

If you live within the City of Copenhagen, you must reside at the address for at least 1 month. Other municipalities might require proof of up to 3 months' stay. Please contact your local citizen service if in doubt.

Employer-provided housing

You must provide proof of rental or ownership of the employer and a housing confirmation for the employee dated and signed by the employer.

Hotel payment receipt

Payment receipts may vary in appearance. However, we require that the receipt have the following information:

  • Name and address of the hotel/place
  • The address you want to be registered at (make sure that the hotel administration/landlord allows you to register at the address)
  • Check-in date
  • Check-out date
  • Confirmation of payment

Airbnb/similar - booking confirmation

You must provide proof of residence either in the form of a rental contract or a housing confirmation. All pages are relevant & the document must be filled completely, dated & signed.

Passport

We require to see a valid passport when you register for a CPR number. We do not accept expired passports. Please upload all relevant pages of the passport (picture page is required, as well as the visa and last page, if relevant)

National ID

An identity card is a travel document with a photo. It is issued by an official authority. A driver's license is not approved. We ask you to bring your National ID or passport when you go to the International House to get your CPR number.

Birth certifificate - family document

We ask applicants under the age of 18, traveling alone or with parents, to bring their original birth certificate when going to International House Copenhagen to get a CPR number. The document may vary from country to country. Please contact the relevant authority for information about legalization/apostille.

Residence permit

There are different types of residence permits. The document is issued by the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (https://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-GB) and it contains information about your residence permit in Denmark (type, date of issue and date of expiry). Your Person ID number is on the front page of the residence permit.  All pages are relevant for the process of CPR registration.

Marriage certificate

The document may vary from country to country. Please contact the relevant authority for information about legalization/apostille. We ask you to bring your original marriage certificate when you go to the International House to get your CPR number.

Registered partnership certificate

The document may vary from country to country. Please contact the relevant authority for information about legalization/apostille. We ask you to bring your original registered partnership certificate when you go to the International House to get your CPR number.

Acceptance from parent holding custody or shared custody

If you move to Denmark with your child (0-17 of age), but the mother/father of the child does not accompany you, we need to have an acceptance from the other parent.
